Or, what I learned at our new rules “Town Hall Meeting” last night.
1. No lying down on the jammer line! At least not when that single whistle blows. You can take a knee, but why would you do that with one-whistle starts?
2. If both your hands are down, you are a downed skater. Sorry, Denver. This doesn’t work anymore.
…not like it was so super effective back in 2011.
3. Don’t bump the NSOs! This rule set finally protects non-skating officials from the horrors of possibly being lightly bumped by folding chairs. I’ve been lobbying for this for years. Also, if you spaz out in your bench area and a chair hits someone – anyone other than your teammate – you get kicked out of the game. As someone who regularly fell while trying to sit down after a jam, maybe it’s best I retired when I did.
4. Jammers and pivots can skate however they like (clockwise, counter-clockwise, out of bounds) to pick up a dropped star helmet cover. This is pertinent because no one knows the rules for star passes, and when they actually happen people would skate backwards anyway, turning a really cool thing (star pass) into this really uncool, boring, confusing thing (penalty box trip, three people in the crowd screaming about who the jammer REALLY is, power jam). No more! Kinda! I’m sure people will still mess it up.
5. You can still sausage. But, ew.
6. You gotta stick the landing. Now you need to be upright to score, so no rockstar slides or sloppy apex jumps.
6b. HOWEVER. If the jammer is down, you can’t just run behind her to avoid being scored on. She’ll get your point. This seems like it might help general forward motion of the pack?
7. Stegoscorus is super cute and is very efficient at running Rose City Rollers town hall meetings. This is no small feat. She had a timer for each question. So reffy.
8. Scarlene can demonstrate and heckle a demonstration at the same time. Also impressive.
9. “Extended touching” of the opponent is now a major penalty. Save it for the after party, ladies.
Here’s more for you if you’re lazy and don’t want to read all the way through the new rules (though you should if you’re a skater, seriously).

Of course, I like the no minors because I’m nearsighted and can never see them from the bench. Not that it does me much good now.
