Just a few weeks ago, a manatee in Blue Springs gave birth to a little tiny (by comparison) manatee baby. LOOK AT THIS TINY BABY MANATEE.
I love you, tiny manatee baby! Look at that wrinkly tail.
Manatee moms are also known to adopt orphaned calves, because they’re nice like that. Like Georgia, who adopted a cold-stressed calf this winter.
That’s the baby manatee news!
In other news…
You guys, I have a human baby living inside of me. It’s coming out in about six months. Now you know why I didn’t post much in December. Basically, I was just too busy gestating. Who knew gestating could be a full-time gig?
We’re hoping our baby will be just as cute as a baby manatee, but a lot smaller. This kid is pretty small so far, but has made itself known to the outside world in the last few days or so. I spend half the time wishing it were smaller (to hide, avoiding the inevitable having to talk to people about it, yuck) and half the time wishing it were bigger (once you can feel it kick, you can’t constantly worry that it’s suddenly died for no good reason). I think I’m set up for about 19 years of this kind of thinking.
Don’t worry – this is still going to be a manatee/roller derby blog. I don’t see any “Mommy blogging” in my future. I didn’t even like typing the term.
THIS ALL MAKES ME INCREDIBLY HAPPY.
Another Bettie Baby!
Yay!
CONGRATULATIONS!! Now, as a pet owner, I feel compelled to remind you to give plenty of love to Manatee and any other pets you have, too, so they don’t feel abandoned by this new pink critter you’ll be bringing into the house. Manatees, as you know, can be incredibly possessive of their humans….
I’m so happy for you, Frisky!!
Thanks everyone!
Don’t worry – Manatee is a parent, and is very supportive.
Your blogs about derby have been so helpful to me as a new derby lady. if there is any tips or tricks I can pass on to you in your rookie years as pregnant lady and new mama let me know.
Aw, thank you! I’ll remember that.
